PSHE/RSHE AT RAYNHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL

As a part of your child’s educational experience at Raynham Primary School, we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive taught programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that gives children and young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future. It also supports the development of essential employability skills for the 21st Century, reduce or remove barriers to learning, such as bullying, low self-esteem, unhealthy/risky behaviours that equip young people to keep themselves and others safe. In addition, PSHE promotes the wellbeing, spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of our pupils and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

As you may already be aware, the Department for Education has announced relationships and sex education changes following nationwide consultation. These changes came into effect in September 2020, and all schools must comply with the updated requirements. The statutory guidance can be found at:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education

This means that we reviewed our RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) curriculum and policy so we can be sure our RSE provision is appropriate for our pupils based on their:

  • Age
  • Physical and emotional maturity
  • Religious and cultural backgrounds
  • Special educational needs and disabilities

The right to withdraw children from some lessons is explained in the FAQs on our website (see below).

To help you understand the curriculum requirements, please look at the information below, which provides more detail.
